The place of essay is a special one amongst the literary forms. Its place on the border of a scientific and literary work causes shaking off the traditional typology of texts and carries with it specific problems in translation. This form has not yet been thoroughly researched in studies on translation. This book defines potential sources of problems in translation of essays on the basis of the reconstructed translation strategies of essays by Robert Musil, Elias Canetti and Thomas Mann.
