This book is devoted to the presentation of the life style of single men and women who set up one-person households. In the recent decades the number of people who have been living single and lonely lives instead of setting up families has been growing. Three phenomena are responsible for the situation: transformations in the demographic structure, modernisation of societies and changes which families undergo. The decision of some people to stay single is also influenced by the fact that they are neither alone nor isolated. Two categories of people: relatives and friends in particular influence the quality of everyday life of single persons. Thanks to them single men and women satisfy their most important needs, that is those of security and affiliation.
