The Rose Labyrinth is one of several themed gardens within the historic walled garden, which is approximately 1.5 acres. Around 200 different varieties of shrub, climbing and rambling rose are grown, along with a wide range of herbaceous underplanting such as geraniums, violets and achilleas. The Rose Garden was designed by Mrs. Mc Laren-Throckmortons daughter Christina Williams as a labyrinth with a statue of Fair Rosaumd in the centre surrounded by several roses called Rosa Mundi. Rosamund Clifford was the lover of King Henry II and was poisoned in the labyrinth at Woodstock by the jealous Queen Eleanor.
