Poland-Ukraine: partnership of cultures
This volume contains proceedings of a conference devoted to Polish-Ukrainian relations in the 20th century as seen in the works which are the result of a conference dedicated to Polish-Ukrainian relations in the 20th century seen from different points of view. Here historians, political scientists, researchers and critics of literature, specialists in studies of films get together. They have made an attempt at presentation of the fundamental processes of their own culture with the share of the other factors - either Polish or Ukrainian. Most of the studies are comparative works and deal with phenomena which had already been manifested at the end of the 19th century and then became the subject of misunderstanding and conflicts, but also of the common dialogue. The readers will find in the book political science studies, which point to the specificity of the development of Poland and Ukraine after the fall of communism; historical studies which tell about the alliance of Polish and Ukrainian people in their tight with bolshevism; texts on literature and on culture, which indicate an incessant Polish-Ukrainian dialogue, in spite of sometimes contradictory political ambitions of the two nations. The idea behind the preparation of this volume is to point out the areas and circumstances of this dialogue, which in the 90s of the 20th century was transformed into an idea of strategic partnership of both cultures and states, independent of the current disputes and different ways of development which divided the two countries.
