Catalogue accompanying the temporary exhibition (open from Jun 28 to Dec 30, 2009) organized by the Old Synagogue with the aim to popularize the knowledge of fundamental Judaic literature: the Hebrew Bible, the Talmud, and the later rabbinic literature. Pillars of Judaism is the first exhibition presenting the valuable and representative Hebrew prints and manuscripts which constitute a part of our museum’s library collection. Each section of the catalogue contains an introductory chapter presenting the background and general context of such topics as the Bible, prayer books, the Talmud, the codes of the Law, responsa, Kabbalistic and Hasidic literature, Hebrew grammar and Hebrew calendar. Each catalogue entry contains information about the content of a given literary work, its author and publisher (or printer), as well as a graphic illustration.
