This book aims at piwiding a brief look at what is important in phonology and phonetics in the second decade of the twenty-first century. The frameworks employed in the chapters ino ludę Government Phonology with its daughter or sister models, that is Element Theory and CV-Phonology as well as Optimality Theory and Construction Morphology Some authors do not use only one model and refer to a few, attempting at analyzing linguistic data in the best light possible. The analyses in this volume concem languages such as Polish, English, German and Japanese, as well as Taąbayłit from Africa and Pawnee from North America.

Haike Jacobs is Professor of French Linguistics at the Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Hę is co-author of the widely-used phonology handbook - Understanding Phonology (with Carlos Gussenhoven) - author of many articles in international journals (Linguistic Inąuiry, Linguistic Review, Canadian Journal of Linguistics, Probus, Nordic Journal of Linguistics, Recherches linguistiques de Yincennes, Catalan Journal of Linguistics) and (co)supervisor of 8 Ph D dissertations.

Krzysztof Jaskuła is Associate Professor of Linguistics in the Department of Phonology and Phonetics in the Institute of Linguistics at John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, Poland. His interests embrace diachronic and synchronic phonology and phonetics of Cel-tic, Slavic, Romance and Germanie languages, etymology and loanwords. H ę is author of articles published in international journals (Poznań Studies in Contemporary Linguistics, Journal of Cdtic Linguistics). His books include Ancient Sound Changes and Old Irish Phonology as well as Levels oflnterpretation in Sound Systems.
