Autor analizuje obecność XIX-wiecznego mitu "prostego, dobrego i bohaterskiego Fina" w wojennej powieści V. Linna Żołnierz nieznany (1954) i trylogii P. Rintala Moja babcia i Mannerheim (1960), wskazując na krytyczny obrachunek pisarzy z tym wyidealizowa-nym mitem, funkcjonującym w świadomości społeczeństwa fińskiego. Prezentuje etapy powstawania pozytywnego oraz apologetycznego wizerunku, przekształcającego się stopniowo w mit bohaterskiego i gotowego do poświęceń Fina, który przywoływany był w kryzysowych sytuacjach Finlandii, szczególnie w czasie fiń-skiej wojny zimowej (1939-40) i kontynuacyjnej (1941-44) ze Związkiem Sowieckim.
Squaring of accounts with the myth of a Finn in the works of Vainó Linna and Paavo Rintala
This monograph deals with the problem of the presence of the 19th century myth of "a simple, good and heroic" Finn in the war novel of Linna The Unknown Soldier and in the trilogy of Rintala My Grandma and Mannerheim. The literary image of the Finn was created in the work of J.L. Runeberg and was transformed in the consciousness of a nation searching for its own national identity in the 19th century into a peculiar myth which lasted in the consciousness of the Finnish society in an almost unchanged form until the 50s of the 20th century. It was used in some definite socio-political situations by opinion-forming circles to the strengthening of the spirit of the nation and propagation of idealised patriotism. World War II brought an important reevaluation in this area. The first steps in the squaring of accounts with the myths were taken in V. Linna s novel in 1955. In this novel, he offered his own image of a Finn. P. Rintala followed him in 1960 and squared accounts with the myth of Marshal Mannerheim, adding to his officially created image the Marshal s human side.
