This book, discussing the iconography of single zodiacal grades, continues a series of works dedicated to the problems of astrological iconography in the Middle Ages and originated in 1994. The emergence of the present volume was made possible by the computer software Tradycje antyczne w sztuce średniowiecznej i ludowej (Classical Traditions in the Medieval and Folk Art) and by the generous support of the Committee for the Scientific Research in three consecutive periods: 1992-1993, 1995-1998, 1999-2001. Thanks to this support we were able to inspect the manuscripts of Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana and of the Universitats-Bibliothek Heidelberg that were of fundamental importance for the discussion. My earlier research on the astrological iconography, focused mainly on the constellational images as present in the liturgical books was sponsored by the Lanckoroński Foundation and by the Paul Getty Grant Program, to whorn I am greatly indebted. The present book owes much to the contribution of my coworker in the KBN HOl/99/16 grant, Dr Joanna Komorowska, who apart frorn the translations frorn Latin and Castillan languages (not to mention the English one), contributed much interesting information on the horoscopic astrology. Together with mgr Rafał Perkowski, she was also a valuable source of bibliographic data.
