Opis książki:

In 2009 will be 100th anniversary of great actress Helena Modrzejewska death. Because of that fact our museum together with the Theatre Museum in Warsaw arranged an exhibition titled – Helena Modrzejewska (1840–1909). For the Love of Art. The exhibition has been extended with a Polish-American publication with the same title. The actress, her career and her unique skills many times were described by various, famous theatre experts like: prof. Jerzy Got (The Kraków years of Helena Modjeska), prof. Emil Orzechowski (Helena Modjeska in America), prof. Jan Michalik (Helena Modjeska in the eyes of a theatre’s maniacs), prof. Dariusz Kosiński (Why Modjeska?). Many new facts from her life were introduced together with developed by doc. Alina Kędziora collection of unknown Modrzejewska’s letters. Moreover a calendar including facts from her life and career was prepared.
The book is full of illustrations. It includes over 180 photos, very often – very unique. The most interesting are these showing characters she used to play. These are the earliest photos of the actress we know. In spite of the fact that most of them were taken in the studio, they are very dynamic, full of postures and gestures and show face mimes. Some of them are rich in expression, others full of seriousness or even impish. Many of these pictures show the actress’ private life, together with her family or in her estate in California. Replica of American playbills and theatre plans, details of costumes and personal articles have been reproduced. It comes from Helena Modrzejewska related collection from the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana in California and for the first time are presented in Poland.
