Książka "Cultural Landscape - Across Disciplines" jest naukową monografią w języku angielskim obejmującą 14 rozdziałów. Współautorami monografii, pod redakcją Józefa Hernika, są głównie osoby z zagranicznych uniwersytetów, instytutów i jednostek, specjaliści z różnych dyscyplin naukowych, którzy podjęli się przedstawienia znaczenia krajobrazów kulturowych z punktów widzenia dziedzin nauki, które reprezentują. W przedmowie książki zamieszczono teksty trzech osób: Dyrektora Wydziału ds. Dziedzictwa Kulturowego, Krajobrazu i Planowania Przestrzennego Rady Europy (Strasburg, France), Profesora z Uniwersytetu Minnesota (USA) oraz redaktora.
Książka stanowi ważny wkład w "wielosektorowe" naukowe podejście do znaczenia krajobrazów kulturowych. Tym bardziej, że większość krajów Europy posiada unikalne krajobrazy, które powinny być objęte ochroną. Jednakże wiele tych cennych krajobrazów jest obecnie zagrożonych, także wskutek braku ich docenienia zarówno na płaszczyźnie naukowej jaki praktycznej. Monografia podnosząca znaczenie krajobrazów kulturowych w różnym ujęciu może się przyczynić do poprawy ich znaczenia.
Pomysł opracowania tej książki powstał w ramach międzynarodowego projektu "Protecting Historical Cultural Landscapes to Strengthen Regional Identities and Local Economies" z programu UE Intererg III B Cadses. W tym projekcie okazało się, że bardzo ważne jest międzysektorowe podejście do znaczenia krajobrazów kulturowych. Co więcej, ten projekt osiągnął wiele dobrych rezultatów właśnie dzięki takiemu podejściu do znaczenia krajobrazów. Monografia "Cultural Landscape - Across Disciplines" może być także pomocna w ramach prac nad wdrażaniem Europejskiej Konwencji Krajobrazowej, gdyż okazuje się, że wiele dyscyplin naukowych może być przydatnych w tym celu.

The book "Cultural Landscape - Across Disciplines" is a scientific monograph in English including 14 chapters. The coauthors of this monograph, edited by Józef Hernik, are mainly people from foreign universities, institutes units and experts on various scientific subjects, They undertook the presentation of the importance of cultural landscapes, from the points of view of the scientific disciplines they represent. In the preface of the book there are texts of three people that is of the Head of the Cultural Heritage, Landscape and Spatial Planning Division of the Council of Europe (Strasbourg, France), of the Professor from the Minnesota State Universities and Colleges - St Cloud State University (USA) and of the editor of this monograph.
The book contributes considerably to a multi-sectoral scientific approach to the importance of cultural landscapes. All the more so because most of the European countries have unique landscapes that should be provided with protection and preservation. However, many of these valuable landscapes are currently in danger also as a result of the lack of their appreciation on the scientific as well as practical plane. The monograph increasing the importance of cultural landscapes in different points of view can contribute to the improvement of their importance.
The idea of this book developed within the international project entitled "Protecting Historical Cultural Landscapes to Strengthen Regional Identities and Local Economies" from the EU Intererg III B Cadses program. The project proved that it turned out that the multi-sectoral approach to the importance of cultural landscapes is significant. Moreover, it this project achieved many good results. The monograph entitled -Cultural Landscape "Across Disciplines" can be also useful in the works on the implementation of the European Landscape Convention since it turns out that many scientific disciplines might be useful for this objective.
