This book prepared in his memory is a collection of reminiscences and recollections written by the members of his family, friends, colleagues, collaborators and students; these are the Memories. The Memoirs contain the words written by Brian Wybourne himself. They include recollections about his father, his correspondence with various friends, his opinions of other scientists, and lectures on English prepared for students of physics in Toruń. There are also photographs taken by Brian Wybourne. As can be seen in the picture above, he always had his camera ready to record all what was going on around him.
The collection of these chapters and fragments of various stories that commemorate Brian Wybourne`s position in the international academic community, and also in the societies of “secular” people on various con-tinents, has been edited by Lidia Smentek.
Lidia Smentek is a physicist; educated at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, she became a faculty member of the Institute of Physics just after graduation in 1971 and since 1994 is a professor of chemistry at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee. She had the privilege to collaborate with Brian Wybourne, and the pleasure of being his friend.
