W przedstawianej publikacji tradycyjne religie ludów Afryki Subsaharyjskiej są przedmiotem studiów etnologicznych i religioznawczych. W analizie tych religii autor kładzie akcent na społeczne, religijne i symboliczne znaczenie wybranych rytuałów w życiu Afrykanów, a następnie na ich teologiczne, kosmologiczne oraz antropologiczne pojęcia i wierzenia związane z systemem istot nadnaturalnych. Książka składa się z sześciu rozdziałów, które opierają się na afrykańskiej literaturze porównawczej oraz wynikach terenowych badań etnologicznych i religioznawczych (1984-1985, 1990-1991), przeprowadzonych przez autora u ludu Konkomba w regionie Saboby w północno-wschodniej Ghanie (Afryka Zachodnia). Ostatni rozdział poświęcony jest dialogowi międzyreligijnemu z tradycyjnymi religiami Afryki w świetle współczesnego nauczania Kościoła katolickiego oraz analizie wybranych duchowych i religijnych wartości ludów afrykańskich, będących podstawą tego dialogu.
