Opis książki:
In this volume of Ad Americam we have decided to focus on the American presidency - an issue as complex as controversial and consequently worth academic interest. The 2000 Election presented us with the extremes of American democracy and proved that the results were less important than the whole political show. However, the controversy and the doubts it raised did not change the fact that the President of the USA, invested with executive power by the Constitution, influences the worlds economy, politics, and culture. Our articles touch on different aspects of American Presidency: the presidential campaign as a complicated and sophisticated procedure; its stages, rules and regulations; the definition of presidential prerogatives; or clear and historical James Madison and his involvement in the war of 1812 - these are only some of the issues discussed. In other sections, which we hope will become permanent forum for discourse, we present articles concerning various aspects of American life, from the consequences of The Clean Air Act, the relations between Iroquois Indians and British and French colo-nists, to a unique vision of America as expressed by Alexander Solzhenitsyn; and the emergence of commercial Broadway theatre. We hope the articles will help our readers to understand the place and role of the United States of America in the increasingly globalized modern world.
